La Nouba is a Cirque du Soleil resident show at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, and this magical experience is drawing Disney and Cirque lovers of all ages! The show’s name originates from the French phrase “faire la nouba”, which means to party, or live it up. This Cirque show is an exploration of our universe, which is portrayed as threatening and exhilarating, frightening and familiar. According to press notes La Nouba “is the story of all stories, the site of all mysteries, where dreams and nightmares sleep side by side. La Nouba is memory, individual and universal. It beckons to us, challenges us to uncover passions we thought we’d lost long ago. Here, anything is possible.” And what better place for this show then the site where all of your dreams can come true? Walt Disney and the Cirque have really done it this time – you won’t want to miss this dazzling show – it might just help you discover something about yourself that you weren’t aware of.
La Nouba follows two groups of characters – it’s the Cirques and the Urbains. The Cirques are circus people who breed magic, fantasy and imagination, and the Urbains are the urbanites, a representation of a bland, boring, monochromatic world. The two groups clash, making for an interesting contrast and interaction for all to see. The encounter leads the characters to fear and ecstasy, and hopefully leads the audience to discover that hidden, or unknown passion. In typical Cirque-style, the acts, the music, the vocalists and the sets are beyond amazing, providing candy for the eyes while the story provides food for the soul.
