Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte is all about contributing to good causes. On Monday Laliberte announced the unveiling of a new foundation that will help the world’s poorest countries gain access to precious clean water. The One Drop Foundation is Laliberte’s creation that is aimed to hinder the plight of those who face a daily battle in finding clean water. Over the next 25 years Laliberte will contribute 100 million Canadian dollars (equal to 104 million US dollars) to the foundation, which will fund projects to rebuild water wells and provide drinking water in poor countries.
Laliberte made the announcement alongside Prince Albert of Monaco, who is the director of the international aid organization Oxfam as well as the chief executive of the Royal Bank of Canada. At the foundation’s unveiling Laliberte said, “No one can remain indifferent when we know that at least every eight seconds, a child dies from a disease caused by drinking contaminated water.” The Cirque-founder is definitely using his company’s success for a good cause, and hopefully his philanthropic contributions will inspire those around him.
