Cirque du Soleil’s Rigorous Casting Process Finds the Best Performers Out There
Cirque du Soleil productions feature some of the most out-of-this world performers and you can bet that the casting procedure is a long and intense process. Each year, the Cirque’s casting team leaves the Cirque du Soleil International Headquarters in Montreal and ventures out into the world to find new talent for their shows. The casting team’s quest is to find new, unique performers that will meet the needs of the shows that are currently in performance as well as productions in the creation phase and new projects. The casting team is made up of acrobatic and artistic talent scouts. They seek out performers at major sports events, various festivals and multidisciplinary shows, all in hopes of finding the perfect performers.
Once the casting team lays their eyes on promising talent, they will hold auditions, build bridges with the sports, arts and circus communities, and continue to keep up on the latest performance trends. Having all of these connections allows the Cirque to stay on top of what is hot and gives then an premature look at talented acrobats, athletes, dancers, singers, musicians, clowns and actors who are at the peak of their careers. According to the site, “the virtual experience immerses candidates in the Cirque du Soleil world. They can discover the disciplines featured in the shows, find out how to apply and learn about the work environment, as well as view testimonials from artists and mentors, the talent scouts’ biographies, and more.”
