The new Broadway Theater production titled “Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy,” which is going to hit the stage here shortly, has nothing at all to do with the hugely successful Broadway-type theatrical mega force Cirque Du Soleil. They won a lawsuit proving that fact, actually. The only reason this should show up on your radar, as a die-hard Cirque fan, is simply to know that this performance, which sounds a lot like a Cirque Du Soleil show (all it would need is a foreign word, capitalized, or some made up sound, perhaps “Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy XOOSH” would do it), is not, in fact orchestrated by the much more famous touring performance company.
You can read a short little blurb about the show here at the New York Times. The Cirque Blog has not yet been able to discover how good the jungle show is, but so long as it’s on the Broadway Theater stage, it deserves some attention. After the jungle fantasy, the theatrical version of Shrek is due to start up at the Broadway Theater.
