“Just imagine,” sang John Lennon, though he probably never dreamed his music would be set to acrobatics in the future. But several years ago, a friendship between George Harrison and Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte produced “LOVE,” a unique Cirque show based around the music of the Beatles. It’s still on stage at the Mirage in Las Vegas, and a feature-length, behind-the-scenes DVD, “All Together Now,” was filmed for Beatles and Cirque fans alike.
Band Weblogs appears to have a press release announcing the DVD’s release June 23. The film itself is just under an hour-and-a-half, with more than 30 minutes of special features. It pulls away the curtain on the creative process that formed the show, including disagreements over how the Beatles’ music would be visually portrayed. This certainly isn’t the first time the band set images to their music–think of “A Hard Day’s Night” or “Magical Mystery Tour.” Let’s keep our fingers crossed, though, that one of these days, Cirque will pull out the stops and produce a “Yellow Submarine” show. It’s hard not to imagine acrobats dressed as Blue Meanies twirling through the air. For tickets to other Cirque shows, visit Stubhub.com.
