Oh, Eastside Seattle. How we envy you.
For all the Cirque du Soliel fans on the Web, the best news you can read is that the infamous, Montreal-based acrobatic troupe is coming to your town. And that is why we should all shake our fists at the residents of Eastside, where the Corteo show begins tomorrow. You probably remember the post from a couple days ago that briefly described the Corteo show, about a dying clown facing his life’s choices on his deathbed.
Seattle Weekly has a quick-hit review partway down its events calendar describing the show in a little more detail. The writer describes Cirque’s shows as “sensory overload,” but warns away coulrophobiacs. You have to wonder when clowns stopped being strictly funny and developed this reputation for being out-and-out frightening. Bad horror movies probably had something to do with it, but fortunately Cirque’s shows are more stunning than scary. Still, if you are afraid of clowns, you’d better hope Cirque never develops a Halloween-themed show (though those of us that do love bad horror movies would attack tickets for that show like a horde of zombies).
