Corteo review from Redmond!

Seattlest.com has a cool story about Cirque Du Soleil’s “Corteo,” which was performed recently in Redmond, Washington. Here’s a real fun part: “When (Alison Crawford, senior artistic director for “Corteo,” was) asked what she would tell someone hesitating to attend “Corteo,” she said, ‘Are you crazy? You have to see our show!’”

Well, she certainly does have a bias at work there. But dedicated fans of Cirque du Soleil–and you only need to see one show to quickly develop a love for this troupe–may share similar sentiments with Ms. Crawford. There are some excellent descriptions of “Corteo” in the article, and the writer notes how the lavish costumes and sets mesh with an amazing story.

Crawford calls herself the “guardian of the concept” of “Corteo.” What a prestigious role! The story, about a clown facing death and looking back on his life, is certainly an original one. It’s a sober subject, though there is certainly humor and levity in it. It’s not what one would expect from a circus performance.
