The first Asian Cirque Du Soleil show, “Zaia,” opened yesterday and has been attracting rave reviews from news outlets all over the world. Apparently the story, about a young girl embarking on a quest of self-exploration that leads her into outer space, features an astronaut riding a bicycle through the air and other riders biking upside down while suspended 80 feet above the stage.
Tourists visiting Asia are going to find it hard to resist this show. It’s actually rather unfortunate that Cirque Du Soleil isn’t bringing it closer stateside, so we can enjoy the show as well. It’s a testament to both the expanding appeal of Cirque Du Soleil as well as the expanding markets in Asia. China especially is experiencing a revolution in its economy, and this is sure to play a role in that, as more people find themselves with luxury money to spend.
