The actors, the acrobats, the surreal, colorful costumes. Cirque Du Soleil stands out because of the combined efforts of all these individuals together. But one crucial role is often overlooked: That of the lighting and effects director.
From behind his control panel, which resembles something out of “Star Trek,” Pascal Sioui is the director of automation. That means he watches the show and sets its mood, using much of the behind the scenes equipment the audience isn’t aware of, necessarily, though the overall effect makes a difference on the show in the end. It’s great that media outlets seek out and highlight people like Mr. Sioui, because they’re the unsung performers in Cirque Du Soelil’s highly respected and entertaining, thrilling shows.
