Olympians Part of Corteo Cast in Vancouver

Cirque Du Soleil’s clown-fantasy show, Corteo, is coming to Vancouver and the buzz is hot around this show.  Cirque Du Soleil originated in Canada, and Vancouver couldn’t be more excited about its arrival.  The cast coming to Vancouver boasts three former Olympians in its cast of aerialists.  The high-flying show has had accidents before, but the show attempts to prevent injuries by having three or four cast members able to perform any one of the feats.  The show takes 300 employees to produce, 150 of which are permanent positions.  The rest are local hires who may continue on with the show for more than the current venue.

Corteo is based upon a clown’s vision of what his funeral procession would be like.  Since he spent his time at the circus, his friends attending the event are performers big and small.  Beds are used as trampolines, and a chandelier is used for an amazing display of artistic acrobatics are two samples of the beautifully energetic show.  Such a show makes you appreciate the discipline each performer must go through and the amazing physical toll that a performance like that takes.
