David Shiner is the writer and director of Cirque Du Soleil’s Kooza, and he is no stranger to this type of performance. Like Corteo, Kooza explores the roots of Cirque Du Soleil and bases its plot around the art of clowning. Shiner knows a thing or two about clowning. Shiner traveled to Paris during the 1980s to work on being a mime and clown on the streets. His talent landed him spots in two prestigious European circuses: Circus Roncalli of Germany and Circus Knie of Switzerland.
Unlike some circuses in the United States, European circuses are serious matters where performers often have been in the circus for generations perfecting their crafts. Other than being a clown in Europe, Shiner was also a clown for other Cirque Du Soleil shows for the last 17 years. He also won a Tony Award for a two-man show with Bill Irwin and originated the Cat in the Hat in Seussical.
He takes his theater experience and love of clowning to make Kooza one of the best shows Cirque Du Soleil has to offer. The high-flying act has great acts and a family-friendly atmosphere. The touring show will be in various spots around the country including Chicago, Boston and Washington D.C. Get your Cirque Du Soleil tickets from StubHub.com.
