Cirque Gives Outlet for Male Synchronized Swimmers

In the frenzy of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, it is easy to get caught up in the incredible athletic demonstrations and competition, but sometimes it is worthwhile to look a little deeper.  Consider, for instance, who ISN’T competing at the Olympics.  In the case of synchronized swimming, the answer is men.  Some may have seen this sport completely as a women’s sport, but the truth is there are men around the country who compete in synchronized swimming.  Some of those men have tried to push to be included in the Olympics, but no one is giving in so far.

Male synchronized swimmers also encounter prejudice for their participation in the sport.  Men in the sport have been booed at competitions and told by coaches to find a different sport.  One such man has been taking the brunt of other’s judgment in the sport for years.  Bill May is 29 years old and has paved the way for other male synchronized swimmers.  May has found an outlet for his talent: Cirque Du Soleil.  While other places look down upon it, Cirque Du Soleil’s water show, O, has embraced his talent and made May a part of their show. See him and other performers by getting Cirque Du Soleil tickets from StubHub.com.
