For those who have seen Kooza or other Cirque Du Soleil shows featuring contortionists, it is one of the most amazing parts of the entire production. As the audience watches in disbelief as the performers bend and stretch in ways it doesn’t seem like bodies can move. In the Kooza show, those performers are all surprisingly young. Dasha Sovik is the oldest at 17 with 15-year-old Julie Bergez and 11-year old Natasha Patterson joining her, and they are all shockingly flexible.
The girls have been with the show for 15 months with nine shows a week. They have performed some 488 times since joining the show. That has made them fairly good at what they do, but they definitely have had to sacrifice a normal childhood to be on the show. For these three performers, they wouldn’t have it any other way. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Patterson said, “I can’t imagine being a normal kid. I can’t really imagine not having this life. I can’t imagine not having to go on stage and not having to train.”
