Cirque du Soleil started with a few jugglers, stilt-walkers, fire-breathers and a whole lot of spirit in the 1982 “The High Heels Club” in Baie St. Paul, Quebec and eventually became the world’s leading circus. The mind of Gilles St Croix and Guy Laliberte have created a worldwide sensation that has caught on in every continent possible, and now the show’s first large adventure, Quidam, is coming to Dublin’s O2 for the first time. Led by “Le Guide,” aka Laliberte, at the company’s Montreal headquarters, the almost 50 year old former fire-breather claims this as his aim, according to the Irish Times: “To contaminate the planet with good creative projects suggest reasons to hope.” Since their first 1987 show, the reinvented circus has “contaminated” over five continents with a most recent permanent show in Tokyo and one in the works for Dubai. The first was “We Reinvent the Circus” in Los Angeles; finding inspiration from The Bread and Puppet Theatre as well as Dario Fo to Commedia dell’Arte, the show fused theatrics with original live tunes and contemporary / mythical dance to capture Californian’s hearts.
