Cirque’s Founder in Turmoil

Guy Laliberte isn’t taking his biography sitting down - in other words, he has a few of those himself when discussing Ian Halpersin, the author of the biography on the Cirque du Soleil founder who is now claiming damages from libel from the CEO and founder, the troupe as a whole as one of the troupe’s spokesmen. “Guy Laliberte: The Fabulous Story of the Creator of Cirque du Soleil” is a serious detail of the Never one to shy away from the media, Laliberte immediately responded to the claims that he was a party animal and sex addict, as the book gives detailed accounts of the sex and drugs that happen at his celebrity parties, saying the book “is a piece of crap” and “full of lies.” Halperin’s lawyer is asking for Laliberte, the Cirque and Cirque rep Renee-Claude Menard, all who commented negatively on the book, for $250,000 in punitive damages; “I can take my hits, but when you call me a crook, it’s indefensible.” The company is demanding a retraction of the excerpt from Maclean’s Magazine published in teir June 15th issue that promised “Sex, Drugs and Acrobats.” “It’s strange to see Mr. Halperin saying he is fighting for freedom of speech and freedom of opinion, but when he sees people giving their own opinion about his work, he is no longer defednding that freedom” Lawyer Francois Fontaine said.
