For those who have been longtime lovers of Cirque du Soleil, returning to the place where it all began might not be the best idea, says one reviewer who recently returned to the set of “Saltimbanco,” one of the Montreal based company’s longest running productions that has continued to impress audiences with its colorful stage and even brighter blue and yellow tent. Saying ’something was missing from the opening shows Thursday night at the St. Pete Times Forum,” says John Fleming of the Tampa Bay Times. Though he typically enjoys the tent as it portrays the company from its very beginning, the blandness of performing night after night has obviously taken a toll on the stars as they tramp around the theatre.
What continues to impress are the acrobatics, which are always the best in the buisness and never too over the top. The company travels around the world contacting people, training hard and schoosing the best skilled athletes in the world. The best of the evening was duo trapeze act by Ukrainian sisters Ruslana and Taisiya Bazaliy, who soared over the crowd to the soprano sax, all done ia the imaginative choroegraphy of Debra Brown and Rene Dupere’s score.
