Cirque du Soleil performers love to show off their skills - even to reporters during a behind the scenes, out of costumes practice like the one in Pittsburgh for “Alegria.” The performers in plain clothes jumped around tight wires, vaulted through the roof (practically) and performed as if a live audience was right in front of them. “I competed,” said performer Trudy McIntosh. “This is just the reward from gymnastics. Every night we get to go out in front of huge crowds.” The guys practice each and every day for the daily shows. “Most of them have been doing this since they were 4 years old. It’s a discipline. It’s just not about maintaining skills. It’s about improving. It’s very much a part of this company,” artistic director Brooke Webb said. The cast of 55, from 17 different countries like Argentina, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Mongolia, Poland, Russia, Spain, Ukraine, and the Untied States, they all get along well. ”We find new and interesting ways of being able to communicate. Of course, movement is a universal language,” continued Webb. “We travel together. We live together. We work together. We eat together. We are a family,” McIntosh said. And the relationships show in a great performance, going on now with StubHub and Cirque du Soleil tickets.
