Alegria Comes to Frisco

Cirque du Soleil’s Alegria will premiere at Frisco’s Dr. Pepper Arena late this month (February) for five days of shows. The Cirque du Soleil show has been performing around the world since 1994 and launched its arena tour last May. The show’s name comes from the Spanish word “happiness” or “Joy,” and flows through the theme of power, control and upheaval. “There’s tension and struggle, and when that gets strained, there is contrast. Lightness and darkness, weightlessness and substance, power and weakness,” artistic director Brooke Webb said.

“Every arena is a very different environment, and things like the lighting arrangements, size and height of the venue affects the show,” Webb said. “Each show is unique.” The show opens February 24th and closes February 28th; the performances are schedules for Wednesday through Saturday 7:30pm, and Saturday at 11am, 3:30pm, Friday at 3:30pm, and Sunday at 1 and 5pm. “The uniqueness of the show is the fact that the performers are able to adapt it to an existing venue,” Alegria Texas spokeswoman Lisa  Endicott said. “That allows the shows to come to a venue closer to home for a large part of the audience.”
