Cirque’s Debut in Russia

Today, Cirque du Soleil begins a month long venture in Moscow, marking the first time that the Canadian troupe has made such a permanent mark in Russia. The Grand Chaptieau is all set up on the grounds of the Luzhniki sports complex. The show is ‘Varekai,” a rain forest special that sure to please many Russians as the tropical climates, Georgian dance and Russian performers will intrigue and excite the first time Russian audiences. Meaning “Wherever” in the Romany language, the show is set at the summit of  a volcano and begins with the fall of lcarus, with creators noting that ‘it pays tribute to the nomadic soul and to the spirit and art of the circus tradition.”

The show was written and directed by Dominic Champange, and takes fans on a while ride as the heart stopping soundtrack, acrobatic jumps and feats and more all feature the signature Cirque du Soleil themes that our nation and others have come to love so dearly. The show is not just a cluster of gymnasts showing off their skills but tells a heart wrenching story that is powerful and wonderful to experience.
