Cirque du Soleil has revealed a new adventure via MSG Entertainment. the show, Banana Shpeel, will premiere at The Chicago Theatre for a limited engagement November 19th through January 3rd, 2010 before moving to New York’s Beacon Theatre in February 2010. The series of videos gives details into the production skills and life of Cirque du Soleil, with “#1 A New Twist on Vaudeville,” citing a new genre for the international circus troupe, as reported by Broadway World. Directed and written by David Shiner, there is little about the story except this press release: “Banana Shpeel is a roller-coaster mix of styles that blends comedy with tap, hip hop, eccentric dance and slapstick, all linked by a narrative that ignites a succession of wacky adventures. This is not circus, or a musical or a variety show, or even vaudeville. It is Banana Shpeel!” The show celebrates Cirque du SOleil’s 25th year - just like the company, Shiner also started from humble beginnings as a mime in Paris; discovered by festival Cirque de Demain, he began working professionally around the world before he eventually found a way into the Montreal based troupe.
